Chapter 4:
The Conspiracy Begins
Aster sat in her room crying into her bed. Hours had passed since her argument with her parents. Kala walked in softly and sat down beside her. “Aster, do not cry dear.” She said sweetly to her, laying her left hand on her back.
“It’s not fair! He is so harsh and over bearing to me! He will never listen to a word I say, NEVER!”Aster sobbed out into her pillow. Kala lowered her head and stood up, walking to the balcony to the rail and looked out over the courtyard. Not knowing exactly what to say anymore, cause it had been the same thing over and over for the last ten years. Aster sat up and looked out at her friend and hand maiden. She wiped her face dry, then walked out to stand beside her.
“I know I have no choice, but I feel that I do. I feel like there is something out there for me, someone out there for me even. I have these dreams Kala. Dreams of another place and other people. I even see things of the future and I don’t understand. I have tried to hide it and I do well at it, but I can not tell anyone of these except you.”Aster said softly as she looked to the stars above her.
“I take it then you have had more of these visions??”Kala asked almost curious like. Aster nodded and let out a heavy sigh.
“There are two figures hidden from view. I feel a strange closeness to them. One of them calls to me and reaches to me. When I go to reach for them, something happens. I see this bright light, then floating infront of me a crystal on what looks like a chain. It’s beautiful and I can’t explain it, but it feels so right, so warm. I reach for it and then there is nothing but darkness. The next thing I hear is my name and then I wake up.”Aster said softly. Kala closed her eyes and nodded, she knew of Aster’s past and she wanted to tell her so bad. But she feared King Bomani and what he would do if he that she had told Aster of it.
“Aster, these visions you have been having. You said you feel warm and safe?” Kala asked her, her tone steady and unwavering.
“Yes that is right. Even the hearing my name in the darkness, the voice was warm and safe. Strange though I think about it now and I wonder if that voice I heard wasn’t that of Daniel’s.” Aster said softly.
Kala looked over at her in shock, *Can it be?? No, they were all said to be killed. But the other two figures in her visions, they weren’t...* she thought to herself.
Aster looked over and caught her starring at her. “What is it Kala?? Why do you look at me so?” she asked her curiously.
Kala snapped out of it and looked at her and then shook her head, looking back at the stars herself. “Daniel, you said that you felt a strange connection with him, correct?” Aster nodded in response, not daring to say the words.
“Aster, I can’t tell you right now, but if I am right, I won’t need to, or at least not as much. But I think..”Kala began to say, then stopped looking around, almost afraid of what she was about to say. Aster looked up at her strangely not sure what her hand maiden and friend was trying to tell her. Kala grabbed her hand and walked back inside the room, then opened every door and looked behind them, she then walked over to her and whisper in her ear. Aster stood back and eyed her curiously and then did as she was asked. In a matter of seconds she had placed a barrier around her room. So that others could not see or hear, even if they were trying.
“Ok Kala it’s done. Now what is on your mind?? Why so secretive?” Aster asked getting anxious.
“…I think you should try and meet with this Daniel tonight. Talk to him more, see what you can find out about him.”Kala said with a steady and more relaxed tone. Aster looked at her in shock, she couldn’t believe what Kala was telling her to do. All this time Kala had encourage her to do as she was asked, but now she was asking to break those rules.
“Kala are you hearing yourself??”Aster asked her in total surprise.
“Yes I am and that is why I think you should meet with him. Aster this sounds strange I know. But you can use your powers in here to make it look like you are here and I will deliver the message for you, I will even help sneak you out if I must. But there are things you don’t understand and won’t for a little while longer. So for now I am asking you to just humor me. I am not saying run off with this boy, I am just saying find out more about him and even follow your heart. If he is who I think he might be, which he can’t be, but if by some slim chance he is, then you MUST do this for your sake and everyone elses. Understand me?” Kala said firmly. Aster looked at her strangely, then nodded. She wasn’t about to argue over this matter. Ever sense she met Daniel she longed to see him again, to find out more about him to talk to him more and now she was being given the chance to. She quickly walked over and wrote a message down on a piece of paper and then changed her cloths to that of pants and a shirt again, grabbing her cloak she looked over at her bed and focused hard causing a solid image to appear of her in bed looking like she was asleep.
“Ok, I’m ready Kala.”Aster told her.
“Good, then the only other thing I request is this. I stay near you at all times. I won’t interfear and I won’t ask to meet him, I’ll stay in the shadows. But when I call for you, it means we must go, no arguing understand?”Kala said firmly again. Aster nodded and the two headed out of the palace.
